Time for a change!

It has been a long time since my last post and I felt the need to redesign my blog. After about an hour of head scratching and trying out lots of new designs, I have finally settled on this one.
I promise that I will be back very soon to post some pics of my latest knitting projects and my blooming garden.
Please come back to visit.

It's Springtime - I must wake up and get busy!

Love Food Hate Waste Workshop

This afternoon I attended a workshop run my  local Council on ways to reduce food wastage by introducing new ways of looking at buying, cooking and storing food. The workshop also involved cooking some yummy foods from leftovers and a cook-off challenge.
On average, households spend $1036 per year on food that is waste.
We can reduce food waste by:
* planning meals
* writing a shopping list
* shopping to a list
* buying only what we need.
More ideas on saving and reducing waste can be found at lovefoodhatewaste.nsw.gov.au and at the wonderful  www.1millionwomen.com.au/ website.

 Wasting food wastes the energy, water and natural resources used to grow, package, transport and market that food - apple poster

Welcome to 2012

The New Year has arrived  and has set me thinking about what I wish to achieve this year.
1. To be more organised
2. To live a more simple and relaxed life with my wonderful family
3. To complete a couple of Diploma courses that have been dragging for a while
4. To sew and create more!!!
5. To remember to smile and allow myself to be happy.

Holiday Fun

We have had a few long distance trips to Victoria during the last couple of months.
knitboy was lucky enough to win a Dr Who competition to an exclusive screening in Melbourne at the end of September.
Great thrifting and bookshop searching along the way. Also a great opportunity to create some life-long memories.

Closer to home we enjoyed a visit to Hunter Valley Gardens as part of my parents 50th wedding anniversary celebrations.

There was an interesting exhibition of sculptures during our visit, as well as all of the fun props.

It was great having all of the family together.

SCRAPS - aka Treasure

I was lucky to pick up a few bags of fabric scraps at a recent garage sale. What fun searching through the bags - finding fabrics that you love but probably wouldn't have purchased yourself.  Also picked up this beautiful wildflower biscuit tin.

From the scraps I have made a potholder, cut out a quilt, and have sorted a pile of picture prints to make an  'I Spy' quilt.
